Nabby's Point is a woodcut of 1913 by Arthur Wesley Dow, an American artist who was a painter, printmaker and photographer as well as an arts educator. The image was made as a print, built up from a carved block, a process that tends to favour clear shapes and considered composition. This impression is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection of woodcuts, where it arrived as a gift from the Dowd-Gallogly Family and Allan E. Dowd.
On your wall: Its restrained, printmaker's approach suits calm interiors such as studies, hallways and bedrooms, especially where simple, uncluttered walls let a single image stand on its own.
