This is a painting by Kazimir Malevich, made around 1928 to 1929, and the title tells us it shows peasant women in the fields. Malevich is best known as the founder of Suprematism, the non-objective approach to painting he introduced in 1915, and here he takes up a figurative subject from rural life. The work is held in the Russian Museum. It belongs to a group of paintings he made in the 1920s.
On your wall: Its rural subject and restrained, minimalist character suit calm living rooms, studies and hallways where a thoughtful figurative piece can sit alongside simple, uncluttered furnishings.
