Koloman Moser designed this poster in 1899 to advertise Fromme's Calendar, a publication linked to Carl Fromme. It belongs to the Art Nouveau graphic tradition, and the lettering is as much a part of the design as the imagery. A woman appears in the composition, and an hourglass is among its motifs, a fitting emblem for a calendar and the passing of time. Moser was one of the leading figures of the Vienna Secession and a co-founder of the Wiener Werkstätte, and his poster work helped shape graphic art in the century that followed. The printing is associated with the firm Albert Berger.
On your wall: Its vintage poster character and Art Nouveau lettering suit a study, hallway or living room, particularly where period-minded or graphic design interiors are the aim.
