This is a poster made in 1896 in the United States by Louis Rhead, an English-born American artist and illustrator. It promotes the newspaper The Sun, with a line telling advertisers that placing their notices there brings the best results. The lettering is central to the design and follows the Art Nouveau style of the period, and a woman with flowers appears alongside it. The letters of the paper's name play a visible part in the composition, so the poster works as both an image and a piece of typography. It suits anyone who enjoys the look of 1890s graphic design.
On your wall: It would sit well in a study, office or hallway, and anywhere a vintage poster with decorative lettering and a floral touch would add some character.
