Pissarro made this view of All Saints' Church, Beulah Hill, in 1871. A church building stands among trees, drawn in pencil and softened with watercolour on paper. The light, delicate materials suggest a work made close to the subject, with a sense of immediacy. Pissarro is known as an Impressionist, and this modest piece shows his attention to buildings and the trees around them.
On your wall: Its gentle subject of a church among trees suits a calm sitting room, a study, a hallway or a bedroom where a quiet landscape is welcome.
