This is the poster created for the première of Jules Massenet's opera Werther, designed by Eugène Grasset in 1893. It was made as a lithograph and measures 80 by 61 centimetres. The poster is linked to the Opéra-Comique in Paris and belongs to a decade rich in French theatre posters. Grasset was a Swiss decorative artist who worked in Paris during the Belle Époque, and he is regarded as a pioneer of Art Nouveau design. The image we offer comes from a digital restoration of the original poster.
On your wall: A good fit for a study, music room, hallway or sitting room where a vintage theatre poster adds character, particularly beside books, a piano or traditional furnishings.
