Ohara Koson made this Japanese colour woodblock print of a black crow perched on a persimmon branch. The bird holds one orange fruit in its claw, while more persimmons and leaves surround it. The dark plumage and the bright fruit make a clear contrast of colour. Koson was a painter and woodblock print designer working in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and he was closely involved in the shinsaku-hanga and shin-hanga movements. This print is dated to 1900–1910.
On your wall: The strong contrast of black and orange suits a calm living room, a study or a hallway, and sits well with neutral walls or natural wood.
