A large white-and-yellow cereus flower opens beneath the moon, with a river and clock tower in the distance behind it.

This hand-coloured mezzotint shows a night-blowing cereus, its big white-and-yellow bloom set in the foreground against a moonlit landscape. Behind the flower, a river winds through the scene and a clock tower rises in the distance. The plate is by Philip Reinagle, and the mezzotint technique gives the night sky a soft, velvety depth that suits a flower that opens after dark. Lettering in the margin below the image completes the plate in the manner of a classic botanical illustration.
On your wall: Its deep night tones and pale bloom suit a bedroom, study or quiet hallway, particularly where a calm, botanical note is wanted against softer or darker walls.
