Julius Klinger made this poster in 1914, and its title, Filmzauber, translates roughly as the magic of film. Berliner Theater points to a Berlin setting. It is a lithograph on paper, a printing method well suited to bold, graphic posters of the period. Klinger worked as a commercial graphic artist, illustrator and typographer, and his training in design is the background to a piece like this. Today the poster is held in the Poster Museum at Wilanów.
On your wall: Its poster character suits a study, hallway, living room or any space with a retro feel, particularly alongside other vintage graphics or cinema-themed pieces.

Julius Klinger was an Austrian artist whose work spanned several fields: he was a painter, draftsman, illustrator, commercial graphic artist, typographer and writer. He trained at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum HTL in Vienna. That mix of drawing, design and lettering shaped a career centred on the visual language of graphic art.
