This is the cover of the March 1930 issue of Mocca, a magazine published in Vienna. It was designed by Julius Klinger, an Austrian artist who worked as a painter, illustrator, commercial graphic artist and typographer, and who studied at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum in Vienna. The piece sits within the tradition of magazine cover art of its time, where image and lettering were planned together as a single design. A house maid appears as a subject in the work. It makes a characterful reminder of how periodicals were presented to readers at the start of the 1930s.
On your wall: It suits a kitchen, dining room, study or hallway, especially where retro and vintage posters already set the tone.
