This is Gustav Klimt's 1915 view of Unterach on Lake Attersee. Klimt is best known for The Kiss and his portraits, yet he also painted landscapes alongside his figurative work, and this is one of them. A village on a lake is the subject, seen through the eye of an artist who was a founding member of the Vienna Secession and who drew on Japanese art more than most of his contemporaries in that circle.
On your wall: A lakeside landscape like this sits comfortably in a living room, study or hallway, especially where you want a calm, modern view with a touch of art history.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
