About this artwork

Painted in 1933, "My Sky is Red" is an oil painting on canvas by Otto Freundlich, a German painter and sculptor who belonged to the first generation of abstract artists. The title speaks in the first person and sets a vivid colour against the idea of the sky, inviting you to look at the picture as an imagined space rather than a literal view. Freundlich admired cubism and spent much of his life in France, and the painting is now in the collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris.

On your wall: Its bold abstract character suits a living room, studio or hallway where a single striking picture can anchor the space, especially in modern, uncluttered interiors.
