Ferdinand Bauer, 1811
A finely engraved botanical plate by Ferdinand Bauer, left uncoloured so the delicate linework of the plant takes centre stage.

This is Tab. 29 from the tenth volume of the Transactions of the Linnean Society of London, published in 1811. It is an uncoloured copper plate, executed by Ferdinand Bauer. The plant shown was named Brunonia sericea at the time, though that name has since been folded into Brunonia australis. Bauer was an Austrian botanical illustrator, and here his skill is seen purely in line and tone, with no colour added. It is a quiet, precise study for anyone who enjoys the careful observation of plants.
On your wall: Its monochrome linework suits studies, hallways, living rooms and reading corners, especially in calm, neutral schemes where a botanical print can add detail without competing.
