This hand-coloured plate, numbered Tab. 68, presents the climbing palm Desmoncus polyacanthos. Ferdinand Bauer shows the plant in several parts: the spiny stems, the pinnate leaves and the inflorescences, with smaller studies of the flowers and fruit set beside them. The plant's name is written on the plate as a caption. It is a clear, orderly record of how the palm grows, and it rewards a slow look at the small details.
On your wall: Suits studies, hallways, sitting rooms and conservatories, particularly in spaces where a botanical subject and a calm, detailed picture are welcome.
