Blauer Berg, or Blue Mountain, is a landscape painted by Alexej von Jawlensky in 1910. As the title suggests, a mountain is its subject, and blue is the colour the artist chose to name. Jawlensky was a Russian expressionist painter who worked in Germany and belonged to groups such as the New Munich Artist's Association and Der Blaue Reiter. This work sits within his landscape paintings from that year, and it shows how a familiar subject can be seen through colour.
On your wall: Its mountain subject and blue title suit living rooms, studies and calm hallways, particularly in modern interiors where a landscape with an abstract feel can anchor the space.
