Karl Blossfeldt turns his camera on the seed capsule of a plant, bringing it so close that it fills the frame. The capsule has five lobes and is covered in fine hairs, each one clear in the warm sepia tones. The textured background lets the form stand out quietly. Blossfeldt is best known for his close-up photographs of plants, published in 1929 as Urformen der Kunst. He was drawn, as his father was, to nature and the ways in which plants grow. This photograph shows that interest in a calm, concentrated way.
On your wall: The soft sepia tones and single botanical subject suit calm, minimal rooms such as studies, bedrooms, hallways and living spaces with natural or neutral colours.
