Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer and sculptor, best known for his close-up photographs of plants and other living things. He gathered many of them in the book Urformen der Kunst, published in 1929. Like his father before him, he was inspired by nature and by the ways in which plants grow. This photograph, titled Tritonia crocosmiflora, belongs to that tradition of looking closely at plant forms. A photograph by Blossfeldt in the Pinakothek der Moderne collection, it invites a slow look at structure, line and shape.
On your wall: Its restrained, botanical subject suits calm, uncluttered spaces such as a study, hallway, bedroom or a simply furnished living room.
