About this artwork

This 1928 travel poster by Roger Broders promotes Sainte-Maxime on the Côte des Maures, part of the Côte d'Azur. It was made for the Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée railway company, known as the PLM, and was published in Paris by Lucien Serre & Cie. In the foreground a palm tree stands out, while red and yellow sailboats sit on a blue bay, with a town rising up the hillside on the far shore. The lettering is part of the design, as is usual for posters of this kind. Broders is known for his tourism posters of French destinations, and this one belongs to that body of work.

On your wall: Its blues, reds and yellows and its seaside subject suit a sunny hallway, living room or dining area, and would also brighten a study or a holiday-style bedroom.
