Wu Rangzhi painted this work in 1862, during the Qing dynasty. It takes the form of a hanging scroll, made with ink and colour on paper, a format traditionally meant to be unrolled and displayed on a wall. As the title suggests, the subject is flowering plants, a theme with a long place in Chinese painting. The combination of ink and colour allows for both fine line and soft, natural tones. The original belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art, in its collection of Chinese art.
On your wall: Its botanical subject and the vertical scroll format suit calm spaces such as living rooms, hallways, studies or bedrooms, where a quiet floral note is welcome.
