Les petits anges is a woodcut by Félix Vallotton, dated 1894. Vallotton was a Swiss and French painter and printmaker linked with the Nabis, and he played an important part in the development of the modern woodcut. This work belongs to that body of printmaking. The title, which translates as 'the little angels', is a helpful starting point as you look at it. Vallotton's work is often described as unemotional and realistic in style, and the print's reduced, graphic character suits a considered, quiet kind of looking.
On your wall: Its woodcut simplicity suits minimalist interiors, such as a study, hallway or bedroom, where a single graphic piece can hold a wall without crowding it.
