Jeux de soleil, meaning 'plays of sunlight', is a woodcut made by Félix Vallotton in 1893. Vallotton was a Swiss and French painter and printmaker, linked with the Nabis, and he played an important part in the development of the modern woodcut. The title points to the interplay of light at the heart of the image. His work is often described as realistic and unemotional in tone, and it is worth looking at how much he does with the print medium itself.
On your wall: Its restrained, graphic character suits calm, uncluttered spaces such as a study, hallway or bedroom, especially where you want a single considered image on a clear wall.
