Print Fanciers is a woodcut made by Félix Vallotton in 1892. Its title suggests people who take pleasure in looking at and collecting prints, a fitting subject for an artist so closely tied to the medium. Vallotton, who was Swiss and later French, belonged to the Nabis and is remembered as an important figure in the development of the modern woodcut. Across his work he favoured an unemotional, realistic manner, and that restraint is part of what makes his prints so distinctive. The work is now held in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
On your wall: Its graphic, restrained character suits a study, hallway, library or any calm interior where a considered piece of printmaking can sit quietly.
