Rhythms is an oil painting on canvas made by Robert Delaunay in 1934. It is an abstract work built from circles and lines, and it belongs to Orphism, the movement Delaunay helped to found with his wife, Sonia Delaunay. That movement is known for strong colour and geometric shapes. Delaunay's later work grew more abstract, and this painting sits within that period. Today it is held in the collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
On your wall: Its geometric, abstract character suits contemporary living rooms, studies and open-plan spaces, where it can bring a sense of movement to a plain wall.

Robert Delaunay was a French artist associated with the School of Paris. Together with his wife, Sonia Delaunay, and others, he co-founded Orphism, a movement known for strong colour and geometric shapes. His work shows a bold handling of colour and a clear delight in experimenting with depth and tone, and his later paintings grew more abstract.
