Painted in 1935, Red Sun is by Arthur Dove, an American artist often considered the first American abstract painter. The title points to its subject: a red sun, treated in the spirit of the abstract landscapes Dove was known for. He worked across a wide range of media, sometimes combining them in unexpected ways, and he is counted among the early American modernists. This painting is held in The Phillips Collection in the United States.
On your wall: The red of the sun suggests a warm focal point for a living room, study or hallway that could use a bold, modern accent.

Arthur Dove was an American artist and an early American modernist, often considered the first American abstract painter. He worked in a wide range of media, sometimes combining them in unconventional ways, to create abstractions and abstract landscapes. He also made experimental collages in the 1920s, and Me and the Moon, from 1937, is a fine example of his landscapes.
