About this artwork

Painted in 1891, Spinning is an oil painting on canvas by Giovanni Segantini. It shows a woman and a cow, set in the kind of livestock housing found on a working farm. The subject is everyday country life, treated with the attention to rural settings for which Segantini became known. He is remembered above all for his large pastoral landscapes of the Alps, and in his later years he worked first in Italy and then in Switzerland. This painting is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia.

On your wall: Its rural subject suits a kitchen, dining room or country-style living space, and it sits comfortably in a study or hallway where a calm, pastoral scene is welcome.
