Shiva sits calmly on a yellow throne before pink rocky hills and a line of trees, a Pahari painting in soft, glowing colour.
No VAT charged. Free delivery in Switzerland from CHF 99. Delivery details
This painting from the Pahari kingdoms of Northern India shows Shiva with a white complexion, seated on coiled snakes placed on top of a yellow hexagonal throne. His trident and drum rest beside him. Behind him, pink rocky hills rise in a mountainous landscape, with a row of trees along the background. Shiva is shown in three-quarter view, a manner of depicting him that was used in paintings from Chamba and stayed consistent for more than a century. It was made around 1755 in gum tempera on paper.
On your wall: Its soft pinks and warm yellow would suit a calm living room, a study or a reading corner, especially where you enjoy a quiet, contemplative landscape.
