About this artwork

This chromolithographed plate from 1896 brings together three designs built around chrysanthemum motifs. A green wallpaper pattern comes with its own frieze, an orange floral fabric sits beside a decorative side border, and a semicircular stained-glass panel completes the set. The plate belongs to the series La plante et ses applications ornementales, where plant forms are shown adapted to different decorative uses. Eugène Grasset, a Swiss decorative artist working in Paris, is regarded as a pioneer of Art Nouveau design, and the flowing, stylised treatment of the flowers here sits comfortably within that style.

On your wall: The green and orange tones and the floral pattern suit a study, hallway, dining room or any interior with a vintage or Art Nouveau leaning.
