About this artwork

This is plate 158 from Maîtres de l'affiche, the fourth volume, and it is dated 1895. It is linked to a poster for L. Marquet ink (Encre L. Marquet), designed by Eugène Grasset. Grasset was a Swiss decorative artist who worked in Paris across many fields of design during the Belle Époque, and he is regarded as a pioneer of Art Nouveau design. Seen as part of that period's poster art, the piece offers a good example of how commercial advertising and decorative design met in the 1890s.

On your wall: A fitting choice for a study, hallway or living room where vintage poster art and a touch of Belle Époque design are welcome.
