This is a poster by Jules Chéret, made in Paris in 1883 to advertise clothing sold at Aux Buttes Chaumont. The title gives the prices: a complete outfit for 29 francs, a suit for 14.75 and an overcoat for 16.75. It is a colour lithograph, printed at the Chaix press, which succeeded Chéret's own, on rue Brunel. The sheet is large, measuring 175 by 120 centimetres. It belongs to the world of fashion and shopping, and to the street posters of nineteenth-century France.
On your wall: Its retro advertising character suits a hallway, study, dressing room or a shop-style corner where a vintage Parisian poster can add some period charm.

Jules Chéret was a French painter and lithographer who became a leading figure in Belle Époque poster art. His work in this field was so influential that he has often been called the father of the modern poster. His name remains closely tied to the colourful, eye-catching street posters of that era.
