Beech Grove I is a landscape painting that Gustav Klimt completed in 1902, working in oil paint on canvas. As the title tells us, it shows a grove of beech trees. Klimt is widely known for his figurative work, yet he also painted landscapes, and this is one of them. The painting is held by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and hangs in the Galerie Neue Meister.
On your wall: Its woodland subject suits calm spaces such as a living room, study or hallway, especially where a modern interior could use a touch of nature.

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work helped shape Art Nouveau in Europe. He made paintings, murals and sketches, centred mainly on the female body with a frank eroticism, and also painted landscapes. Among his best-known works are The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.
