Joseph Stella painted this work in 1947. Its title points to its subject: men, women and children from around the world brought together around the figure of Jesus. It is a theme of unity and shared humanity, and the title gives the picture a clear sense of purpose. Stella was an Italian-born American painter, known above all for his Futurist-influenced views of industrial America and his images of the Brooklyn Bridge. This painting belongs to his wider body of work, and it shows a different side of his interests from those well-known city scenes.
On your wall: A thoughtful piece for a living room, study or quiet hallway, where its theme of community can invite a moment of reflection.

Joseph Stella was an Italian-born American painter associated with Futurism. He is best known for his portrayals of industrial America, above all his images of the Brooklyn Bridge. His work is also linked with American Precisionism, a movement active from the 1910s to the 1940s, and shows a keen interest in the modern city.
