Growth of Night Plants was made by Paul Klee in 1922. The title points to plants that grow in darkness, and it offers a way into the work: you can look for forms that seem to rise, spread and unfurl. Klee was born in Switzerland and worked in Germany, and his individual style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. The work belongs to the Bavarian State Painting Collections and is shown at the Pinakothek der Moderne.
On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits a study, living room or hallway where a thoughtful piece can sit comfortably alongside simple, uncluttered furnishings.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
