Composition is a square abstract painting made in 1917–18 by Theo van Doesburg, measuring 31.1 by 31.1 centimetres. Interlocking rectangular and L-shaped forms in yellow, black and white sit within a painted mitred border, set against a plain white ground. Van Doesburg was a Dutch painter, writer, poet and architect, and the founder and leader of De Stijl. The work is grouped with geometric abstract paintings.
On your wall: Its crisp yellow, black and white geometry suits modern living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where clean lines and a restrained palette are wanted.

Theo van Doesburg was a Dutch painter, writer, poet and architect, working across several fields rather than just one. He is best remembered as the founder and leader of De Stijl, the movement with which his name remains closely linked. His art and ideas offer a thoughtful starting point for anyone drawn to that way of seeing.
