Popova painted this work in 1913, in oil on canvas. Its title points to a model, a standing figure, so the human form is the starting point. Popova was a Russian-Soviet avant-garde artist, painter and designer, and her interest in reworking the figure sits within that wider outlook. The painting is now held in the Tretyakov Gallery.
On your wall: A work centred on a single standing figure suits a living room, study or hallway where you want a modern, considered focal point.

Lyubov Popova was a Russian-Soviet artist who belonged to the avant-garde. She worked as both a painter and a designer, and her practice moved between the two disciplines. Her work is associated with the experimental spirit of that movement, and it continues to draw the attention of those interested in modern art and design.
