About this artwork

Paul Klee painted this work in 1940. It is untitled, though it is also referred to as his last still life, which gives it a particular place among his pictures. It belongs to a group of paintings by Klee that feature angels. Klee was a Swiss-born German artist with a highly individual style, shaped by influences from expressionism, cubism and surrealism. Those threads of modern and abstract art can be felt in how he approached a subject, turning a familiar theme such as the still life into something personal and open to interpretation.

On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits a study, a reading corner or a calm living room where a thoughtful picture can be looked at slowly.

About Paul Klee

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
