About this artwork
This 1897 work is by Alphonse Mucha, the Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist. Its title, a respectful tribute from Nestlé, points to the advertising side of his practice. Mucha was living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, and he became widely known for his stylised, decorative posters, especially his theatrical designs for Sarah Bernhardt. Alongside those, he produced illustrations, advertisements and decorative panels, and several of his images are now among the best known of the era. This piece belongs to that tradition of commercial art treated with a designer's care.
On your wall: A good match for a kitchen, dining area or café-style corner, and for any room where a vintage poster adds a touch of period character.
