About this artwork
This 1928 travel poster by Roger Broders advertises Indian State Railways and urges viewers to visit India, naming Muttra, now better known as Mathura, as the destination. The scene shows a domed temple beside a bathing ghat, where figures gather on the steps and are reflected in the water below. The lettering across the top carries the railway's name and the invitation to travel. It was published in Paris by Lucien Serre et Cie. Broders is best known for his tourism posters of France, and here he turns the same poster-maker's eye to a very different destination.

About Roger Broders
Roger Broders was a French illustrator and artist, working in the early twentieth century. He is best remembered for his travel posters promoting destinations across France. His subjects were typically the fashionable beaches of the Côte d'Azur and the ski resorts of the French Alps, drawing visitors towards seaside and mountain holidays.
