Les petites filles is a woodcut made by Félix Vallotton in 1893. The title points to a subject of young girls, and the work belongs to the printmaking for which the Swiss-born artist is known. Vallotton played an important part in the development of the modern woodcut, and he was associated with the group of artists called Les Nabis. Across his career he approached his subjects in a realistic, unemotional manner, and that restraint is a good way to come to this print.
On your wall: Its modest, graphic character suits calm interiors such as studies, hallways, bedrooms and reading corners, where a single understated piece can sit comfortably.
