About this artwork

This is a calendar design made in 1898 by Alphonse Mucha for Chocolat Masson. The title points to the theme of the ages of man, a subject suited to the passing of the year. It belongs to Mucha's poster work, a body of graphic design for which he is widely known. Living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, he became admired for stylised, decorative images that served advertising as well as the home. A piece like this shows how commercial commissions, such as a calendar for a chocolate maker, could carry that same decorative approach.

On your wall: A good fit for a study, hallway or dining room where a retro poster adds period character, particularly alongside vintage-inspired or traditionally furnished interiors.
