Walter Crane painted this work in 1879 in oil on canvas. The title names George Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle, and Rosalind, Countess of Carlisle. The scene is set in a garden beside a castle. A woman in a red dress reclines, while a bearded man in white sits on a chair holding a tennis racket. A second woman stands holding a book. The garden setting gives the picture a relaxed, outdoor feel, with the red dress as its strongest note of colour.
On your wall: Its garden setting and warm red accent would suit a sitting room, hallway or study, especially where you like a calm, traditional look.
