About this artwork

Rosa centifolia foliacea is a painted engraving of a rose, made by Pierre-Joseph Redouté in 1824. It belongs to his Les Roses series and sits among the botanical illustrations of roses for which he is known. Redouté, born in 1759 in the Austrian Netherlands, was both a painter and a botanist. He became known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers, many of them published as large coloured stipple engravings. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers". The title points to a rose of the Centifolia group, shown here as a botanical study.

On your wall: Its gentle floral subject suits bedrooms, hallways and studies, and sits well in a dining room or a reading corner with a traditional or softly neutral scheme.
