About this artwork

Albert Bierstadt painted The Iceberg in 1850, and it belongs to both the landscape and marine traditions. Its subject is an iceberg, set within a view of open water. It is worked in oil paint on canvas and is held today in the collection of MUŻA. Bierstadt is best known for his large landscapes of the American West, so this early sea subject offers a different side of his work for anyone who knows him only for mountains and plains.

On your wall: Its cool, wintry subject suits calm, light-filled spaces such as a study, hallway or living room, particularly where a quiet focal point is wanted.
