This poster was designed by Ludwig Hohlwein in 1920 to advertise the Bergstadt Verlag in Breslau, the publishing house behind the periodical Die Bergstadt. It is a lithograph, and the original is a modest size of 23 by 31 centimetres. Hohlwein was a German poster artist who trained and worked as an architect in Munich before turning to poster design. He is regarded as a pioneer of the Sachplakat style, which gave a poster's message a plain, direct form. The work belongs to the lively German advertising poster tradition of the 1920s.
On your wall: Its period character suits a study, hallway or library, and it works well beside other vintage graphic design or in a room with a retro feel.
