Leonetto Cappiello made this colour lithograph poster in 1902 to advertise Amandines de Provence, biscuits by H. Lalo. It shows a red-haired woman in a yellow dress sitting at a table, eating biscuits. The poster was printed in Paris by Vercasson and is large in its original form, at 142 by 105 centimetres. It belongs to the Art Nouveau period of French advertising design. Cappiello is often called the father of modern advertising for the boldness of his poster designs.
On your wall: Its warm yellows and reds and its food theme suit a kitchen, dining room or café corner, and bring a retro touch to a hallway or study.

Leonetto Cappiello was an Italian and French poster designer and painter who lived and worked mainly in Paris. He is often called the father of modern advertising. While earlier poster artists favoured a painterly look, he took the opposite path, setting bold figures against black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the posters that came before.
