Ludwig Hohlwein's poster Motoring in Germany dates from the 1920s and was published by the RDV, the Reichsbahnzentrale für den Deutschen Reiseverkehr in Berlin. A dark car sits in the foreground, with a red castle ruin, a Gothic cathedral, a lake town and blue Alpine mountains arranged behind it. Together they suggest the variety of scenery a driver might meet on a tour of the country. Hohlwein was a German poster artist and a pioneer of the Sachplakat style, and he trained as an architect in Munich before turning to poster design.
On your wall: The deep reds and blues and the dark car suit a study, hallway or sitting room, especially where travel prints or vintage motoring pieces already hang.

Ludwig Hohlwein was a German poster artist who helped pioneer the Sachplakat style. He began his career as an architect, training and practising in Munich, before turning his attention to poster design. That move shaped the rest of his working life, and posters are what he is chiefly remembered for today.
