About this artwork

Franz Marc painted Blue Horse I in oil on canvas in 1911. As the title tells us, it shows a horse, and the animal is the heart of the picture. It belongs to the tradition of animal art, a subject that Marc returned to in his work. The painting is regarded as one of his best-known works and is held in the Lenbachhaus in Munich. It was shown in several exhibitions presented under the name Der Blaue Reiter, which Marc and Wassily Kandinsky organised from late 1911 until 1914.

On your wall: Its blue horse suits living rooms, studies and hallways where you want a modern, expressive focal point with a calm, animal presence.
