About this artwork

This is a poster from 1897 by Alphonse Mucha, made to advertise Chocolat Idéal, a soluble chocolate powder sold by the Compagnie Française des Chocolats et des Thés. It was printed as a colour lithograph by Champenois, and carries Mucha's signature in the lower right corner. The same design was also used for another product, a reminder of how adaptable good poster layouts could be. Mucha lived in Paris during the Art Nouveau period and was known for stylised, decorative posters, and this one belongs to that world of commercial graphic art.

On your wall: A good fit for a kitchen, dining area or café-style corner, and for anyone who likes a vintage advertising poster on the wall.
