Das bunte Leben, or Colorful Life, was painted by Wassily Kandinsky in 1907. The Russian artist made it on canvas while living in Paris, where he was working alongside Gabriele Münter, his former student and partner, who was also an artist. It comes from the years before Kandinsky became known as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. The title points to what the painting is about: a lively, colour-filled view of life that rewards a slow, close look.
On your wall: Its colourful, energetic character suits living rooms, studies and creative spaces, especially where a modern interior needs a lively focal point.

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist, born in Moscow. He came to painting relatively late, beginning his studies at thirty. He went on to work in Germany during the late Belle Époque and the interwar years, and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art.
