Farbige Formen III is a painting by August Macke, the German Expressionist and member of Der Blaue Reiter. The title points to an interest in coloured forms, and that is what the work invites you to explore: how shape and colour sit beside one another. Macke worked at a time of great activity in German art, and he drew into his painting the elements of the avant-garde that interested him most.
On your wall: Its abstract, colour-led character suits a modern living room, a studio or a study, where it can add energy to a plain wall.

August Macke was a German Expressionist painter and one of the leading members of Der Blaue Reiter. Working in a lively period for German art, he took in the avant-garde movements emerging across Europe and wove the elements that interested him into his own painting. Like his friend Franz Marc, he died in the First World War.
