Promenade is an oil painting on cardboard by August Macke, made in 1913. It shows a park walk, with a man in a straw boater, a woman in a blue dress and figures leaning on a railing, all set among stylised trees. Macke painted it after moving to Hilterfingen in Switzerland, and it was the first work he made there. It is now held at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich.
On your wall: The blue dress and leafy park setting suit a living room, hallway or study, particularly where a calm, modern scene of everyday leisure is wanted.

August Macke was a German Expressionist painter and one of the leading members of Der Blaue Reiter. Working in a lively period for German art, he took in the avant-garde movements emerging across Europe and wove the elements that interested him into his own painting. Like his friend Franz Marc, he died in the First World War.
